What is Error 403?

0
0

The 403 Forbidden HTTP error happens when the client was able to communicate with the server, but the server does not let the client access the required data.

In simple English, it roughly translates to “You don’t have the required permission to access this”. The server gives this answer when directory listings have been turned off.

The most common reason is that directory browsing is forbidden as most web sites want you to navigate using the URLs in the Web pages for that site.

It is also possible that there is no content in the directory there yet. Until the content is uploaded, anyone trying to access the site could encounter a 403 error.

Interesting laws in China

I read an article in the newspaper today when I ate breakfast.

The title of the article was Parents suing everybody who lives in the high-rise building.

Unable to find out who threw a yoghurt bottle out of a window, the parents of a 2-year-old girl who was hurt by it sued all 448 suspected homeowners, all residents from the second floor to the 33rd floor.

The court ruled that all tenants must split the compensation and each pay 360 RMB, total 161 280 RMB. The family of the girl spent more than 80 000 RMB on the girl’s treatment.

Recently news about falling objects from tall buildings and hitting passers-by has drawn public attention here in Shanghai but most only get minor injuries and let it go because the difficulties of identifying who is the guilty one.

Under Chinese law victims in this kind of case can be compensated by all users of a building if nobody is found to be responsible.

This I feel is quite interesting. Imagine you are living on the 2nd floor, is it really fair that you have to be part of and pay in cases like this? A yoghurt bottle from the 2nd floor, can it really cause big injuries? Feels like this law is not so well thought-out and punish a lot of people who did nothing wrong.

Gatis Silakaktiņs is a friend of mine who I got to know while working with the Koala golf brand. Now he has written a book together with Thomas Bothe called “Create Trust In Your Active Sales”.

I bought this book early and paid it late (Sorry Gatis) and now I have had the time to finish it. It is difficult to find the time to read a book while working full time and having two energetic children at home.

This type of books can be tough to get through but I’m happy to say that this one is not. It is more direct and to the point than most books dealing with business related topics. This book is suitable for you who want to learn to explore the sales potential more strategic. It doesn’t matter if you are a newbie or been in the game for a long time, there is something useful for everybody in this book no matter what your sales experience is.

Oh no, please not a cash less society

So I don’t know what to say really. Sweden is leading the charge towards a cash-less society and everybody worldwide is so impressed by the “progressive” Swedish society. But the thing is, it sounds great in theory but it sucks for real.

Sweden is not only a leader when it comes to becoming the first completly cash-less society, Sweden is also in the lead when it comes to identity theft. And having first-hand experience of the last I can also assure you that the Swedish society does less than nothing to help the ones who are victims of identity theft.

If your “identity got stolen” then it’s difficult to have and trust some of the bank technologies as the risk of losing your money again to the criminals is quite big if it already happened one time. So for a victim of identity theft – cash is king.

About 900 of Sweden’s 1,600 bank branches no longer keep cash on hand or take cash deposits – and many, especially in rural areas, no longer have ATMs. Is this happening in other countries too? Banks doesn’t accept cash. If a bank doesn’t accept cash, then really why do they exist?

After a year in China my online bank had stopped working so today I went to the banks SEB, Handelsbanken & Nordea with cash and an invoice and tried to pay at the so-called cashier. All of them said “no we will not help you” and explained what I have to do to pay it. But after some talking about the reason why I can not pay it online SEB made an exception from the rules and helped me. So my electricity will not be turned off! 🙂

How do the banks work in your country? I have been to several countries in the world and dealt with bank issues and have never ever met a bank abroad who doesn’t accept cash. WAKE UP SWEDEN.

Improve Your Sales with Auto Responder Improvements

In this post I mention some simple ways to improve your marketing and sales with some auto responder tweeks..

1. Publish free reports to send via your auto responder. The reports should be related to your business or web site & contain info, ads and links to your sites. People love getting freebies.

2. Collect vital customer satisfaction information by publishing a survey to send via auto responder to those who sign up on your site in exchange for a free eBook, software or trial period at your membership site. This type of information will help you understand their needs, likes & dislikes better.

3. Instead of answering each customer question that is e-mailed to you, publish “Frequently Ask Questions” and make them available via auto responder to those who sign up. To save time and support headaches.

4. Instead of publishing all of your customer testimonials or endorsements on your website, publish only a few there. And set up an auto responder form that invites visitors to receive a complete list via your. Give them a power-packed list; it’s more effective to include all of them.

Mix and match. Change your auto responder strategy to change your auto responder results!

Is China becoming unfriendly to foreigners?

0
0

After spending the majority of last year and already more than one month here in China I am starting to ask myself if China is becoming unfriendly to foreigners and foreign companies? Foreigners and their entreprises were once a group China depended on to attract capital and tech to increase its growth.

Many foreigners describe the enviroment in China now as challening, hesitant and doubtful. All three words I can agree on to the fullest. The never knowing of what rules are applicable and you should obey is the most stressfull part of business life here.

Tightening internet censorship, proctectionism and slow market progress are growing concerns for foreigners in China. It is obvious that the there has been a focus shift from exports to a heavier reliance on internal consumption, all this happening at a time when China is seeking more economic influence and bigger voice on global political issues.

I read an interview with an american business executive who lived in China for 20 years, he sums up the situation very accurate: “For foreign companies in China, right now is perhaps the most distressing and unhappy time that I have seen. They are afraid of filing trade actions, or talking publicly about their problems as they fear that retribution would be very strong.”

Creating An Online Business

0
0

The first kind of businesses that you can create when looking to create an online business would be a website which serves a particular niche in the market. Many people have done on this and this is often done by trying to find an underserved niche, building a website, and then profiting off of this small but profitable match. A great place to find more information on this particular topic would be www.findhotniches.com. Here the author has created a website which finds underserved niches which you could potentially build a website around. When you’re building a website, you’re going to want to find cheap keywords that you can use to help build your business as well as create good content. By creating the content and then creating back links between yourself and other websites, you’ll be setting yourself up to have a high page rank with Google. By using AdWords to bring traffic to your website and then also developing your natural search engine traffic through building up a website, you will have built yourself a very solid business. This is just one way of creating online business.

Another way to you can build and create an online business is through eBay. This is an area which was particularly hot several years ago and still remains a solid business proposition. Many people are able to make a full-time income on eBay. You will need to find a wholesaler where you can get products at a discount to sell on eBay. The general idea when working on selling on eBay is to find a drop shipper. A definition of a drop shipper is a wholesaler sells you a product and will ship the product to a customer. You will buy the product at the wholesale price and then make money on the difference between what you buy the product for and sell the product for on eBay. Using the wholesaler allows you to focus on selling the product without worrying about stocking the product. You do not need to worry about any sort of shipping or backend but you will want to make sure that everything gets sent out. If there are problems with shipments, the customer will be coming back to you and not to the wholesaler too. If you go to worldwidebrands.com, you will find the best wholesale shipping directory on the Internet.

These are two of the different ideas in creating an online business. There are many ways to make money on the Internet but these are two proven methods. You will not have to use a lot of money up front to create these particular online businesses and these businesses can be something that you will have a great deal of success with.

Write the Best Possible Content even if it is not every day

0
0

Writing often is advice that most bloggers come across on other sites. The reason why it is popular advice is due to the fact that it is based on the assumption that posting often demonstrates that you are committed to what you do. This results in visitors and readers coming back to your blog to see and read about what you’re up to. Posting too often may sometimes have the opposite effect. Visiting a blog for the second time, readers might be looking for the same post to re-read or something similar.

Forcing your readers to go through a bunch of new posts, 1, 2 sometimes 3 a day might be a deterring factor. In these cases, I will just use a search engine to find what I am looking for. Furthermore, the 2nd and 3rd posts of the day are usually of lesser quality due to writers fatigue and therefore less interesting. Instead of posting several times a day just post once a day or just whenever you think you have something interesting or useful to write about. Put some thought in your posts, give your readers a reason to come back and always avoid bombarding them with clutter. Focus your effort on a few good topics.

Optimize your Blog for Search Engines
Most bloggers out there start blogging the wrong way. After they start blogging they do so by relying primarily on social networks for traffic. Social network traffic is great but it rarely converts into money. The best traffic to make money is search engine traffic. A blogging tip everyone should get a chance to read and re-read is that search engine traffic will be the most profitable kind. Although Social networking is an easy way to generate traffic you should always spend some time to make sure your blog and posts are properly optimized to rank well in search engine result pages. Take a few hours a week and perform a few scheduled and simple search engine optimization tasks.

Blogging SEO
Make sure your titles are relevant to your topic, make sure you refer to your topic keywords throughout your posts and make sure you tag your posts properly. Also, make sure to interlink your posts with older relevant posts. Always use keywords you are interested in ranking high for and keep these keywords concentrated around a specific topic.

Get as many one-way inbound links with anchor text as you can; by many I mean thousands. Think of your site or your blog as a property you acquired in the countryside. After you start building you will need to make a road, get it hooked up with power and so one. Backlinks are the essentials your blog or site will need to prosper. Don’t only rely on other bloggers to link to you. Create backlinks to your blog by submitting articles in databases. Write a few 500-word articles on similar topics you write about on your blog, add back links with anchor text and start submitting. Ideally, you should submit a few articles to thousands of directories for every post you write. There is software available to help you do this. Do the same thing for every post. You can easily create thousands of one way links your blog and particular posts in less than a few hours.

Social bookmarking also works great for this purpose. Make sure you get your posts bookmarked at as many bookmarking sites as possible.

Once a week or once every two weeks, use Google Webmaster Tools and see which posts of yours showed up in search engine result pages. Go back to them and optimize them. Add more keywords, make the title catchier, tag them better or even elaborate on certain things you wrote and think will help them rank better in searches.

Cultural clashes in the daily life

0
0

I spent more or less all of 2016 in China and so far another two months during this year. I have been working around 15 hours per day seven days a week trying to fix some issues related to the business here.

All this experience of life in China has made me realize that the differences between eastern countries (like China) and western countries (like Sweden) are huge. The differences in the business world are unbelievable, the way people respond to you in a regular day-to-day discussion about job-related tasks here is more or less the complete opposite of what you would hear back in Sweden.

The differences don’t stop in the work-life, the differences you experience in the daily encounters with friends and people outside of work are also quite interesting. The risk for misunderstandings due to preconceptions on how to carry a dialogue with another person is very big.

But the struggles in work-life and spare time are what makes living in China interesting though sometimes mentally stressful.

Jogging in Shanghai

Yesterday morning I decided to take charge of my life and health again and not only work 24/7. To achieve more while working I believe the number one key is to be healthy.

So decision made, let’s get healthy again!

Last night I went jogging around the Bund area here in Shanghai and it was awesome! I really enjoyed the 60 minutes run and the air was clean and it was even sort of warm.

Jogging is a great way to clear the mind from garbage and get back to the state of mind where you need to be, to be happy and focused and be more certain about what to do and how to do it. I am not saying that one hour run is enough, to keep the mind happy and healthy the exercise need to become a daily routine.

I will keep posting here from time to time to keep you all up-to-date about my new healthy life! Do you want to go jogging with me here in Shanghai? Send me an e-mail and let’s get healthy together!

Designated Survivor

0

Since becoming the father of two children I haven’t had time to watch much TV or movies the past years. Most of my movie consumption has been done during long-haul flights and it was during a flight with United Airlines I discovered the new TV-show Designated Survivor starring Kiefer Sutherland.

Sutherland plays a low-level cabinet member, Tom Kirkman, who is the designated survivor and is forced to become the president of United States after the Capitol was hit by a foreign or domestic terror attack.

I don’t know why but I have always enjoyed movies or tv-shows dealing with American politics in any way. The movies JFK and Thirteen Days are two favorites of mine as well as the tv-show West Wing..

The reviews online about Designated Survivor are mostly negative but I am a fan and I am happy to sit here in Starbucks in Shanghai and watch the fourth episode of season 1 as I take a break from work.

My only complaint about Designated Survivor so far is that sometimes it is a bit too obvious what will happen. I don’t want to be a spoiler but some of the decisions the President makes are too ridiculous and you can guess what he will do ten minutes before he actually do it.

A good friend in Shanghai

0
0

I just wanted to take a few minutes to write this blog post to tell you all about my morning. I am daily dealing with some problems related to my business here in Shanghai and I have been complaining a lot in past posts about the cultural differences and personal communication problems I feel occur daily here.

But today I finally experienced the opposite!

One of the problems I am dealing with for the past weeks finally reached a solution thanks to a Chinese friend of mine here in Shanghai. Before I wouldn’t refer to this person as a friend but after our phone call this morning I feel friend is the correct title.

So the lesson of today, do not judge people of what they did in the past, look at what they do today and decide your feelings towards them based on their latest actions.

A new app, pollution, language barriers and opportunities

0
0

Today I downloaded a new app on my phone to be able to easier take notes and make the classic “to-do lists”. I will try it for a couple of weeks before I tell which one it is and give you my review. I wrote this post in the new app and then just copied and pasted it into the WordPress app. Quite convenient!

I got up at 5:30 am today with a booming headache. Probably because I was outside for many hours yesterday when the air quality was very poor, to say the least. Growing up in Sweden I never really gave a second thought about the clean air, it is just something that we always have and nothing special. After 15 months in Shanghai, I have realized how precious and how grateful one should be for clean air.

Like this morning I opened the balcony door to get some fresh air into the bedroom. Five minutes later it smells like an old diesel engine been running in the room for hours.

The air is a problem here but there are many other parts of life in Shanghai that sort of make up for it. You learn how to protect yourself from the worst pollution and still can find ways to enjoy life in this impressing city. There are unlimited opportunities both personally and professionally here.

While you are trying to catch some of them you will deal with said pollution, cultural differences, language barriers and more.

But isn’t it because of all these challenges one chose to live in a city like Shanghai? It adds some spice to life!

How traveling changes your personality

0
0

How can traveling change a person? I would like to share some thoughts and experiences I had from different travels.

I have since changed from a tourist to a traveler. I am amazed how traveling has changed my values in life. Before I knew it, my priorities are different, I see things from different perspectives, my horizons broaden, my character grows, the list goes on. If someone asks what is the difference between a tourist and a traveler? In my own context, the traveler will eat a run of the mill Chinese hamburger or Western Dim Sum and accept it. The tourists are likely to hope that they have the taste of the western hamburger and the Chinese dim sum. As described by G.K. Chesterton “The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see.” The diverse cultures, the locals’ way of life, their languages, their authentic cuisine are what I savor when I travel now. Gone are the days when I juggle to factory outlets, chocolates, and gifts, except for Memento Sake.

In this modern world, luxury obsession fed by new consumption and business culture, peer pressure and social barometer make many people lose their identities. Many of us measure themselves by the emblem or symbol that sticks to our clothes or equipment, I must admit that I feel good when I got my Diesel watch on my wrist. As young we are all driven by our society, the materialist dogmas are embedded hard to convert. Travel reminds me of where I come from, who I am and who I am not. Journey made me feel the inner values I never recognize and reset my priorities in life. Travel requires courage and brings you out of your comfort zones, especially a self-plan trip to third countries. Imagine going to St. Helena or Tristan da Cunha, one of the most distant countries in the world, it will certainly raise your concern for many matters.

Each trip raises new values in me, the modern Paris and the highly developed Tokyo Akihabara Electric City open my eyes and show me the infinite and creative brain power of our human mind, seducing my temptation for the most beautiful things in life.

I am humbled by all the things I have seen while traveling, and it certainly had invoked a greater inner search in me.

Spend a day doing nothing

0
0

Sometimes we need to sleep, watch TV and just goofing off to recharge our own batteries. For someone who stays at home a lot then the solution is perhaps going out for a walk to get some well needed oxygen to the head and change the scenery.

If you feel a little bit sad and down then a short walk is enough, if you are very sad then walk longer. If next step is a nervous breakdown, then go for a long walk that will leave you exhausted when you come back home and all of the excess nervous energy is depleted.

Me personally I hate walking so I try to regularly go out jogging, either in the early morning or late evening. I prefer to do it in the morning as it gives me more energy to start the day, however sometimes it is better to go out in the evening to clear the mind and help the body calm down after a long day of work.

Walking and jogging are good but sometimes you need to find a hobby. Like me, I like to spend some time doing small freelance jobs online and play with graphics and websites. Even writing blog posts like this! Whatever it is for you, make it something you enjoy and puts a smile on your face. The whole point is something fun that raises your spirit.

However, some days it is ok to just lay down on the couch and zone out in front of the TV. Sometimes that is the only way to recharge your batteries.

Now while living in Shanghai I often go to Starbucks to recharge my batteries, starting the TV and watch the programs here is quite pointless for me as all of them are in Chinese and really utterly uninteresting.
